Sandro Norton

Sandro Norton é um guitarrista multifacetado com aprofundados estudos em guitarra e detentor de uma técnica ímpar: a guitarra percussiva. Natural do Porto, o jovem guitarrista cedo partiu para Londres para estudar. Mike Outram, Shaun Baxter, Ian Scott (Beach Boys), Phillip Mead (George Crumb), Dave Cliff (Lee Konitz), Eddie Harvey (Ella Fitzgerald) são apenas alguns dos nomes com quem Sandro se cruzou no seu percurso académico.

 Em Londres, atuou em vários locais como o “Cavern” em Liverpool, “Jazz Café” em Cambden Town, Ronnie´s Scott, “100Club” em Oxford Street e “Borderline” no Soho. A música levou-o também à Noruega, Suécia, Espanha e Holanda como solista e membro de pequenas ensembles.Trabalhou na National Youth Orchestra (NYJO) e construiu parcerias musicais com Pip Williams, Mike Outram, Xenopoulos Vasilis, Ian Anderson, Mathias Gwin, Bias, Dyce, Brown Jocelyn e Kahiali Haifa.

Regressou a terras lusas em 2007 e lidera até aos dias de hoje, uma série de projectos de jazz com um conceituado painel de músicos portugueses.

O seu álbum de estreia “Flying High… At The Heart Of It” editado em 2014 é produzido e dirigido pelo próprio em conjunto com o músico Jorge Fernando. Já na carreira deste primeiro cd, Sandro Norton abriu para Randy Brecker no Festival de Jazz de Matosinhos. “Quatro Mestres” é o espetáculo que o guitarrista divide com Carlos Barretto, Alexandre Frazão e Filipe Raposo.

Sandro já tocou para mais de 50 mil pessoas em duas ocasiões: com Jethro Tull e com Jojo Watz no Ashton Court Festival, em Bristol.

A 10 de março, Sandro Norton juntamente com o Octeto esgotou a Sala 2 da Casa da Música, no âmbito do Ciclo Jazz – Novos Valores do Jazz. A peça central deste concerto foi o seu primeiro cd “Flying High… At The Heart Of It”.

Sandro Norton is a multi-faceted guitarist with an unique guitar technique: the percussive guitar. Born in Oporto, Sandro went on his early twenties to London where he went to study with some of the finest musicians: Mike Outram, Shaun Baxter, Ian Scott (Beach Boys), Phillip Mead (George Crumb), Dave Cliff (Lee Konitz) and Eddie Harvey (Ella Fitzgerald).

In UK Sandro performed at clubs like “Carvern” in Liverpool, “Jazz Café” em Cambden Town, “Ronnie´s Scott”, “100Club” at Oxford Street and “Borderline” in Soho. Music also took him to Norway, Sweden, Spain and Holland as a front man and as a member of ensembles. While working at the National Youth Jazz Orchestra (NYJO), several musical collaborations took place with artists such as Pip Williams, Mike Outram, Xenopoulos Vasilis, Ian Anderson, Mathias Gwin, Bias, Dyce, Brown Jocelyn and Kahiali Haifa.

In 2007 Sandro returned to Portugal and started working with several national musicians.

In 2014 releasead his first cd “Flying High… At The Heart Of It”, produced and directed by himself and Jorge Fernando. With this album, Sandro Norton opened for Randy Brecker’s concert at Matosinhos em Jazz Festival. Alongside the Octet and the new cd, Sandro also plays with Carlos Barretto, Alexandre Frazão and Filipe Raposo – all jazz musicians – as “The Four Masters”.

Norton played in the past with Jethro Tull to 50.000 people and with Jojo Watz at the Ashton Court Festival to the exact same number at Bristol.

This month, Sandro with his Octet presented and sold out Sala 2, Casa da Música, at Oporto his debut cd “Flying High… At The Heart Of It”.
