Marco Oliveira is a promising and unique voice from Portugal. He is a singer-songwriter and a musician that moves through Fado, Jazz and many traditional music genres. Notably he is the voice that MADONA choose to take to her house in NY for the New Year’s Eve 2017/2018! Born in 1988, the young artist started to sing in public with only 9 years old. One year later, he won the first Juvenile prize in “Grande Noite de Fado” and in 2004 he won it again in the Seniors Category. Feeling the need to deepen his connection to music, he began studying classical guitar at the age of 13 in the Portuguese National Conservatory of Music (Lisbon). In 2008, Marco released his first album “Retrato” and since then he has collaborated in many international music projects in Ghent, Brussels, Antwerp, Vilnius, Prague or New York. In 2014 Marco was invited by the Italian singer-songwriter Vinicio Capossela to sing “Joana Francesa” (Chico Buarque) and “Estate” (Bruno Martino) in Teatro Tivoli, in Lisboa, where Capossela presented his new album. In 2016 Marco released his second album “Amor é Água que Corre” which includes the presence of distinct and acclaimed figures of the Fado universe. This is a genuinely urban record, infused with traditional Portuguese ambience and character, a proof that the art of songwriting can be fresh and continually renewed. During 2016, he has presented his new album in many music festivals: Caixa Alfama (Lisbon, Portugal), Siesta Festival (Gdansk, Poland) and MusaLusa (Tenerife,Spain). Marco Oliveira was one of Riga Jazz Stage singers in April 2017, at Latvia. During the second semester of 2017 Marco played in Poland and France at the Festival L’Imaginaire. The year of 2018 began with the travel to London to play in the Songlines Fado Series on the 13th of February. In March, Lisbon, notably at the São Luiz Theatre, received Marco and his friends Ricardo Parreira on the Portuguese guitar, Carlos Barretto on the double bass and Diogo Duque on the trumpet for an amazing concert with “Lisbon and the enchanted soul of his streets” as theme. Ana Sofia Paiva, as special guests, has also recited some legends and poems about this city. The AME, Atlantic Music Expo 98, has chosen Marco Oliveira among 150 artists, to be presented in Cape Verde last April, to present his showcase. Marco took with him the musicians Ricardo Parreira on the Portuguese guitar and Quiné on the percussions. Marco will launch a new album during 2018.
